Journalists' Halloween horror - a true story

Bloody Halloween

Horrifying figures for print journalists right here. So, that's it then for the newspaper? Our Man has to say, yep, 'fraid so. Time to move on for all those creatures of the night still with ink running though their veins. Suck up some wisdom from here, and join the undead of the black arts - the bloggerati.

The pay sucks, but it's a lot more fun than print.

Pic lifted from here.

amazing how quickly this has occurred.

there are some dire local papers in the UK that all supported the local council who spent millions on advertising with them.

can't say I'm sad at the prospect

Some papers will survive, but as a niche rather than mass market. For it to happen, most papers need to go, though.

And if the local papers are the ones that disappear then - how should I say this delicately - good riddance, godforsaken leavings of dung. I've never yet seen a local paper I actually liked. Now that local ads and notices are online they've pretty much lost their reason to exist. After all, any local paper that actually produced good journalism soon grew to became a regional or even national one. Those that didn't - well, there's a reason for that. Mooo.

Where else can the winos learn how to spell if you close all the local papers? Must admit, Our Man has spent most of his career in local paper newsrooms. Sure, the papers sucked, and the editors were nuts and so on, but man it was fun while it lasted. Some days anyways.
