Love (of power) conquers all

Has Our Man got a treat for you? Worried that in these hard times maybe, just maybe, hate will beat love in the world? Worry not, here's a timely reminder of the power of love (or the love of power) to tie two former enemies together in a passionate embrace that can't fail to warm the coldest of hearts...

Gordon + Tony = Love

Hillary + Barack = Love

Taro + Japan = ?????

Happy Valentine's Day, politics lovers.

That photo next to Nelson Mandela is P.W. Botha (prime minister), not Pik Botha (foreign minister). No relation, they just happen to have the same surname. (Botha in South Africa is a bit like Smith in England.) Mandela + any Botha = love? Objection, m'lud! A better choice might be Mandela + a later prime minister, F.W. de Klerk, who engineered the end of apartheid.

Guilty m'lud. The perils of throwing the piece together late at night with no editing! Will fix forthwith...

I have been trying real hard as of late to keep love in my heart. It is true, there is a lot of hate in the world recently. It is starting to wear at me a little.

Regarding the Botha mix-up: you're allowed to plead extenuating circumstances! The kerfuffle in the (ex) colonies can be quite confusing. Great blog, by the way! I'm a regular visitor.

Thanks for the kind words Anon. But thanks even more for correcting Our Man when he gets his knickers in a twist, that's more valuable than sycophantic comments, though those are good too.

TheGhost, for someone with a scary name, you are quite the softy (that's a good thing, by the way). Our Man would like to think love will triumph in the end, even when he hides behind a veil of cynicism, but the jury is still out on that one.
